The British Army adopted the SA80 rifle on 02 October 1985 and this utility-style knife bayonet was issued with it. A casting, somewhat crudely produced (with casting marks still usually evident) it bows to the pressures of modern-day economics. The blade is a clipped-point Bowie style with short, deep fullers on both sides but a part-serrated finish to half of the edge on the left face only to form a rope saw. A hole just past the end of the fuller connects with a lug on the scabbard to form a wire-cutter.
The scabbard incorporates a sharpening stone and saw (here seen partly opened) and the whole is encased in a canvas frog, here in normal DPM but also available in olive drab as well as other camouflage patterns.
